Challenge!!

Copied from Roadskater.net

Kind of been out of the loop for a while, but am determined to get back into it. I have been procrastinating getting started me training for a triathlon that my wonderful wife signed me up for in June. I have known about this since my birthday in November, but have come up with every excuse in the book to not train. Something to watch on tv, too cold, too hot, blah blah blah...we have all heard it. Well the end comes today for me. No more excuses! This is where the challenge comes in. Post here what you did for the day as far as exercise. It doesn't matter what it is. Friendly competition between friends! I for one could use the motivation from all of you and I am sure the rest of us could us some motivation too. I am going to post here as much as I can of what I am doing, and I hope you all will to! Blake if you have a different place you would rather us post this then let me know. Can't wait to hear all of your training, races, or stroll in the park. Craig

My thoughts on the hockey

Well that didn't go as planned, but don't count out the Canadians yet. They play Germany tonight with Luongo in net. I think he will do a better job than Brodeur. We'll see. I biked to work Monday and today. Not a lot of miles but at least I got out. Its exactly 6 miles one way so 12miles a day on a very hilly course. I brought my heart rate monitor today and I think my average heart rate for the 25 min was 155. Not bad. Felt like it was higher. Maybe running tonight or swimming. I need to see what time the hockey game starts.

mtn biking

Well I didn't do anything yesterday. Helped a friend move, but thats not an excuse I guess. I know my excuse, I stayed up late watching Olympic curling. The Canadian women had a very close game with Denmark but in the end came out on top winning by 1. I never thought I would enjoy curling, but it actually is quite good. Went out mountain biking at country park today. They have some really good trails there. Very challenging. I had a lot of fun, but now my back is sore. Note to self -work on core-. Also, I sold my truck so now I have no choice but to ride my bike to work until I get the other one I bought fixed. So at least I will get 5 days straight of riding in. Its only 6 miles one way but I always try to break my time record each time so I end up going full out for that time. So I hope it doesn't rain. Hockey on, GO CANADA!!

I kicked myself

I got out and ran tonight. Did 4.5 miles in under 45 min. Not great but at least I went out. I hate running in the dark and by myself but it gives you time to think. I am going to be honest with myself from this point on and get with the program. I weigh 206 lbs. I want to be under 175 by May when I do the Hagan Stone Tri. In order to do that I need to train and I need to get off the couch and train! I am being repetitive, but its the truth. Thats a little over 30 lbs in 3 months. I don't think that is unreasonable. I know I am out of shape when my average heart rate for a run is 175bpm. That needs to go down. I think I need some base mileage to get that down and stop going out and running as fast as I can. So I guess my next 2 weeks will be long slow runs...or walks.

Need a kick to get out the door

Been thinking about running all day, going to try and do some interval training. Its so cold outside though it would be much easier to sit in the house and watch the hockey on TV. I am DVRing all the olympics so i can watch it later, but I hate getting behind and watching knowing that Canada is going to win or worse than that, not winning. Bobbi has gone to a dinner for work so as soon as she gets home I will get out and run. Need to get ready for the high point half marathon on March 20th. I feel like I have lost all of my endurance that I worked on for the 10k in January that I did by being so lazy the last 3 weeks. I hope it will come back quickly. Its hard to get out when its below freezing. Have you ever read a blog where someone was as all over the place as this?

First posting from Fat Tri Newbie

Well this will be my first posting. I have always talked about doing a triathlon, and my wife finally got sick of me talking about it and signed me up for a few. I have already done the Issac Dickenson Hot Chocolate 10k in Asheville. Ok not a tri, but it was a start. I did ok. My time was just a few seconds over an hour. Next is the High Point half marathon. Haven't officially signed up for it because I have been very lazy the last few weeks and am wondering if I can get enough training in to do it. I think I can, I think I can....blah. Oh well, then after that is the Hagan Stone try a tri. not sure on the distances but this will be the first official Triathlon. Not too far away, just south of Greensboro. Then after that will be the big daddy for me. The Philadelphia Olympic distance Triathlon. This is a 1.5 km swim, 40km bike and 10km run. I am not sure I will be ready for this. Bike and run...fine. Its the swim that scares the bejeebies out of me. I haven't done a lot of swimming and don't really have a good place to do it. I have a membership at the Rush, but thats such a piddly pool. I think when the weather gets warmer I am going to swim in the lakes by the house. They say no swimming, but who is going to say anything at 5am? I won't, will you?
